Rita Moreno is the only female performer to have won all four of the most prestigious show business awards: the Oscar, the Emmy, the Grammy and the Tony. Moreno is best known for her work in West Side Story (1961), a modern musical inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Her versatility as an actress who sings and dances, lead her to an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Anita in the legendary film, West Side Story. Moreno won two Emmy Awards in 1977 for several appearances on The Muppets, and in 1978 for a dramatic appearance on The Rockford Files. In 1975, she received a Tony Award for her memorable Broadway performance as “Googie Gomez” in The Ritz. She continued to receive recognition, and won a Grammy Award for her 1972 performance on "Electric Company Album." After her success with West Side Story, Moreno took on a range of fascinating roles both on stage and in films. She performed with the likes of famous actors, Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, and James Garner. She is one of the few people to ever receive the four major entertainment awards. Moreno continues to perform in feature films, has been seen making television appearances, and even now, sings and performs in theatrical productions.
